Our Growing Army of Volunteers

Project Change

At Giving the Basics we are busily counting, sorting and casing human dignity products for the 54 registered pantry locations in the KC Metro area.  We couldn't do our powerful work without our volunteers who are a blessing to Kansas City and to Giving the Basics.  The generous work they do to help us prepare for pantry pick up day goes on all month long.  We have a great time getting ready to load our products into the pantry trucks when they arrive.  We are proud to see Kansas City area business, churches, schools, organizations and individuals have product drives and offer financial assistance to Giving the Basics because our city is getting stronger one tube of toothpaste, one roll of toilet paper and one bar of soap at a time.

We are happy to give a shout out to our volunteers from Rockhurst High School, Notre Dame de Sion High School, Holy Spirit Catholic Youth Group and Ascension Catholic School.  Adding them to our list just makes things go smoother.

How you are all making a difference for Human Dignity

  • Brownies at QHR had a fantastic product drive in the Miami County Kansas area
  • The Knights of Columbus hosted a yummy pancake breakfast and gave Giving the Basis the proceeds
  • Midwest Nightfly had a run for human dignity in St. Louis and gave us the product they collected
  • Camp Kateri Tekakwitha in Williamsburg had an ongoing and powerful product drive, by asking the kids to bring something along with them to camp
  • The Country Club Bank on the Plaza had a jeans day and gave us the proceeds from the employees
  • The American Business Women had a product drive and invited us to speak at their event in June
  • We worked with Project Change to have an all city toilet paper drive to collect 26,000 rolls of toilet paper to distribute for as long as supplies lasts
  • A group of KU Students had a drive for their community relations class
  • Rockhurst University had a very generous drive,
  • Bob Hamilton Plumbing has an ongoing product drive for shampoo and toilet paper for dress down Fridays

The list continues to grow for organizations who have signed up to have product drives for us.  Thank you all and please pass the word to other people to join in the fun!
