Giving the Basics Announces Strategic Advisor
Kansas City, MO— Thomas H. Holcom has volunteered to become a strategic advisor and executive coach for Giving the Basics.
Tom is a lifelong resident of Kansas City where he spent 48 years balancing a banking career with a strong commitment to volunteerism. His entrepreneurial style has supported the growth of several businesses and non-profit programs. His volunteer efforts make a difference for ordinary families and children facing extraordinary needs.
Over 4 decades Holcom’s community volunteerism has included executive leadership roles on many boards of directors. In 2016 he added Giving the Basics, helping them focus on leverage, synergy and expansion plans. Previously Holcom has supported Angel Flight, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Park University, Truman Medical Center, Kemper Museum, Bloch School of Business, Command and General Staff College, Business Executives for National Security, and the Save the Flame campaign at the National World War I memorial.
Holcom has been recognized for his efforts to expand social responsibility locally and nationally. He has received the Angel Flight Volunteer of the Year, Big Brothers Big Sisters Man of the Year, Executive of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year for Social Responsibility, UMKC Alumni Community Service Award, the Outstanding Civilian Service Medal and the Army Commanders Award for Public Service. In 2003 President George W. Bush recognized Holcom for his volunteer effort during the president’s visit to Kansas City.
Holcom has committed a year of executive coaching to Giving the Basics management and board of directors. He has been inspired by their mission and success: Giving the Basics provide hope, dignity, self-worth, and healthy living by supplying free personal care hygiene items not covered by various governmental programs. Giving the Basics helps low-income families with small children, students, battered women, veterans, senior citizens, former prisoners and the mentally ill. The expanding school programs help children attend school feeling fresh, comfortable and open to the learning environment. GTB serves children and families of all ethnicities and religious beliefs.
Celebrating its 5th anniversary, Giving the Basics has grown by teaming up with more than 65 non-profit organizations and 14 local school districts in both Missouri and Kansas. The potential market size served by current pantries and schools exceeds 200,000 children.
